The Problem With Perfection

We all want to be known for doing or being great. Try as we might we are all imperfect beings. Not one of us capable of the kind of perfection transcending all our thinking moments and earmarking all actions. You know what, that's ok. With wisdom and maturity comes the understanding of what our limitations are. No matter how hard we try, getting it right all of the time is pretty difficult. Many have tried. Many more have failed.

Accomplishments abound and the victory is understanding when to accept that after you have done all you can, you can step back and still realize progress. Knowing you have worked hard, fulfilled obligations and needs and can see tomorrow with a renewed sense of self. All we have is our word at the end of the day. How we view it, use it and influence with it can be both thrilling and a grand challenge. Especially so, when others begin taking notice of positive things you have done and the bar has been set high. So high in fact, you begin to see yourself as more than a contributor. You are the woman, or man! YOU did, YOU-YOU-YOU. Curb, reverse, or at least slow it down a little. What can you do to give back? Stumped? Interesting.

Volunteering can be a cure for the ideal of perfection. Learn a new skill by diving into something unfamiliar. Challenge yourself to do better than you did yesterday. Take a class, up your game. It doesn't take perfection but it does take change. We humans are not big on immediate change yet it happens around us every single day. Sun, moon and stars never set the same way. Life happens in twenty-four hour cycles and what needs doing seemingly gets done without a second blink, even with our perils. Yet, the world still keeps spinning and we keep going.

The trouble with perfection is that it gives one an inflated sense of self. Making it look as if no matter what you do, you can't be wrong. No leeway because the ego makes it hard to accept constructive and at times, much needed criticism. Advice given by those who have your best interests at heart are good sounding boards and will offer real words with meaning, not fluff or circular logic. Their bottom line is to make sure you succeed not bottom out on ill-fated outcomes based on misinformation. At this point you should have good friends to rely on for this kind of support. Keeping what's real around you steadies the boat and strengthens the sails. Not perfect but alright with me.

This thing called life is pretty cool and when we embrace it and accept it without the head-tripping and drama, it can be really awesome.

~Until next time.
